Dr. Elizabeth Perkins is Associate Director and Research Associate Professor at Florida Center for Inclusive Communities (FCIC), a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities at the University of South Florida (USF). Originally from England, Dr. Perkins is a Registered Nurse Learning Disabilities (RNLD; learning disabilities is the UK term for intellectual disabilities) and worked in geriatric/intellectual disability long-term care. She emigrated in 1998. After completing a BA in Psychology, and Ph.D. in Aging Studies, her academic career at USF has included a variety of research, education, training, and advocacy activities focused on aging, developmental disabilities, healthcare, and family caregiving. She has co-authored three editions of the book Physical Change and Aging: A Guide for the Helping Professions, along with numerous peer-reviewed articles/book chapters. Dr. Perkins is a Past President and Fellow of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, and a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America.
